Although if I was Mr.Syrell's editor I would have eliminated the cover as I feel that it takes away from the content, most notably in " For Susan, " and " Oh, to Be 5 Again, " which I see beauty in, perhaps a black orchid or rose on the cover would have sufficed along with the compelling title. This is a book that defines in many ways the literary courage it takes to meander through the world of darkness which is a part of the Yin aspect of life itself, the shadowy, dark side, as opposed to the light Yangish side. (But they both need each other) In essence, everything is actually good, as indicated often by the poet Rumi, even the so-called 'bad, and in seeing life this way, the overcast world, as illustrated so thoroughly by Mr.Syrell, then becomes a Teaching Tool and that is the most important thing that needs to be said. Too many people avoid the dark and do not face it as Nature intends, they run away. Mr. Syrell faces it head on in his numerous epigrams and night descending " limericks."(The word just seemed to fit) The work is not verbose and you can tell that there is an intelligence at work here, every offering is different and thought out, and I admire that greatly, it is a sign of a good writer and not an amateur. Each one is a little and, at times, large compelling journey unto itself. Certain poems-aside from the one's mentioned above- that stood out for me were The Secret, Afternoon Cocktails on the Veranda with Claude & Ellen, and The Day She Left. I was glad to see that in the future the author is considering other subjects such as love, war and religion and that was nice to see.

I love this book! William has a keen way of expressing himself with the written word, some of his poems are instantly relatable and some will leave you puzzled, waiting to see what's on the next page.
Wether it's a lighthearted short musing or something more dark and intriguing, you will enjoy the read as he tries to make sense out of life on paper.
